The Swedish company Linjett is a boutique builder with roots deep in Scandinavian yachting traditions. Think of builders like X-Yachts or Najad or Hallerg Rassy or Sweden Yachts and you’ll appreciate the types of boats and the level of quality Linjett delivers.
This fall, the company announced that they are introducing a new 36-footer to their line that fills a hole between their 34 and 39. A couple’s sloop with a self-tacking jib and an in-mast mainsail, the boat was designed for easy sailing by a long watchkeeper since couples often have to sail solo while a partner navigates, communicates or prepares a meal
Note that the main traveler is mounted on the cabin top ahead of the berm for the base of a dodger where it is out of the way and you are out of harm’s way in a sudden jibe.
The 36 modern lines with a nearly plumb bow, a strong sheerline with just a hint of bounce to it and a neatly squared off transom with a built-in swim platform, Under the water, it has a modern cruising fin with a draft of 6.5 feet and a high aspect spade rudder.
In the cockpit you’ll find twin wheels on modern-looking pedestals and a demountable table. Aft, note that there is a built-in stern anchor. Cruising in Sweden involve hundreds of anchorages among the thousands of islands and often you will moor right to a rocky outcrop with a stern anchor and the lines tied ashore.
Linjett can also supply a bow ladder that attaches to the pulpit so you can climb to and from your rocky outcrop at the bow. Not many of us cruise this way in North America but it is entirely possible.
The builder decided to go with only two sleeping cabins so they could maximize the cabins, the head and storage areas. This is a four-person boat that will most often just have a couple onboard.
The salon will be full of natural light from the overhead hatches, cabin side glazing and the large hull windows. In combination with the soft teak and mahogany woodwork and light-colored fabrics, the 36 will be homey is a traditional yacht style.
Unfortunately, Linjett does not have a dealer in North America so you have to go to Sweden to have one built. But, for a couple looking for their ultimate Scandinavian-style, high quality cruiser, you can’t do much better than owning a Linjett 36. Read more here.
