Before reading on, please take a moment to fill out this week’s survey so we can share your knowledge and experiences with the Cruising Compass family. Thanks. NOTE: The link to last week’s survey question was broken so we are running the survey again.
Do you have a hard dodger on your boat?
Many thanks to all readers who took the time to fill out last week’s survey on mainsails. Of the many who answered, 66% have traditional slab-reefed mains, while 23% have in-mast systems and 11% have in-boom systems. For those with slab-reefing mains, 59% have two reefs, 38% have three reefs and 3% have only one reef. Asked what are the appropriate number of reef points for a boat sailing offshore with a slab-reefed main, 67% said three, 22% said two and 11% said four.
