Do you carry a life raft on your boat?
Many thanks to all readers who took the time to fill out last week’s survey on in-boom mainsail furling systems. Of those who answered, 16% have in-boom systems and those skippers rate the systems at 4.6 stars out of 5. Of those who do not have an in-boom system, 22% are considering retrofitting one to their rig. Asked to comments on in-boom furling, readers replied:
“Easy to reef and raise and lower if the boom angle is correct.”
“Easy sail management (up/down), highly variable reefing, ability to reef sailing dead down wind, no gymnastics re sail-cover. Luff tape replacement is a maintenance item (4-5 yrs for us).”
“It is easy to use with and electric winch. I would never do it with out an electric winch.”
“I can raise and reef main alone and remain in the cockpit. Especially good for an old guy sailing single handed!”
