On Friday August 11, the Salty Dawg Sailing Association will host a live Zoom webinar on how to prepare yourselves and your boats for an offshore passage. While the SDSA is preparing sailors for their fall Caribbean Rally from Hampton, VA and Newport, RI to Antigua and the Bahamas (two fleets) and other rallies, the subject matter applies to all sailors planning to sail offshore. The webinar next Friday will focus on high seas communications, essential safety communications and essential safety gear that should be on every offshore boat. The seminar will be given by Tim Metcalf, the SDSA communications director and shoreside rally coordinator, Alex Helfand, SDSA board member and veteran rally participant and George Day, VP of the SDSA board and circumnavigator. The webinar, like all SDSA webinars, is free to members and costs only $12 for non-members. The archives of past webinars on the SDSA website goes back to 2021 and offers an amazing resource for experienced sailors and new cruisers alike. So, this is a great time to join the SDSA to open up all of these free educational webinars and become a part of this fast growing community of cruisers. Who knows, you might even join one of the SDSA rallies one day. I hope to see you at the Offshore Preparation webinar next Friday at 5:30 pm ET.
Plus, tonight, August 3, at 5:30 pm ET, SDSA President Bob Osborne is hosting a webinar with the latest updates on the 2023 Rallies to the Caribbean and Bahamas and all the events accompanying the rallies. Its free to all so mix up some sundowners and tune in to the Zoom meeting.
