Here’s a look at a cruising destination that most of us will never sail to but is fun to read about. Kenya lies on Africa’s east coast and faces the Indian Ocean. It has a rugged coastline with many isles and coral reefs that make it an interesting and even exotic cruising destination.
In its wisdom, the Kenyan government has set aside some of the rarest and most diverse regions of the coast to be national parks and marine preserves. Flora and fauna above and below the water are protected so we all can experience the coast of Africa in its natural wild state.
The Oven family are from Australia’s east coast and have been cruising aboard their catamaran Excelsior for a couple of years. Recently they crossed the Indian Ocean and made landfall in Tanzania before turning up the African coast to Kenya. They spent weeks exploring the country’s marine parks and maritime preserves and shared their experiences and advice on Noonsite.
