Thanks to all reader readers who took the time to fill out last week’s survey on fuel consumption. Of those who replied, 65% said they have run furl consumption tests to calculate usage at various rpms. Regarding cruising speed RPMs, 51% run at 2000, 33% run at 2500, 13% run at 1500 and 3% run at 3000.
At cruising speed, 36% burn 0.75 gallons per hour, 31% burn 0.5 gallons, 19% burn 1.0 gallons and 2% burn 1.5 gallons. Regarding maximum motoring range with full fuel tanks, 22% said 301 to 400 miles, 20% 201 to 300 miles, 17% said more than 600 miles, 14% said 401 to 500 miles, 14% said 501 to 600 miles and 13% 100 to 200 miles. So, almost a third have boats that can motor more than 400 miles.
Regarding cruising speeds under power, 42% said 6 knots, 33% said 5 knots, 20% said 7 knots and 5% said 4 knots. No one selected 8 knots.
