On Saturday this week, thousands of volunteers will take part in events around the world to support the health and welfare of our oceans, beaches, reefs and all the creatures in them. It is World Ocean Day, a day that marks an unflinching focus on the state of our oceans and how we, as citizens of the blue marble, can do our part to keep them safe. The day has been sanctioned by the United Nations since 2008. The day is powered by the World Ocean Day Youth Advisory Council that has members in 150 countries and synchronizes with more than 2,000 organizations. If you live near the coasts, the Great Lakes or any large lake, there will be an ocean-related event near you on Saturday. If you want to get involved or want to learn more, click here.
