This year, the classic Swedish builder of high-end cruising boats launched a new 40-foot cruiser to their line. Historically, HR has had smaller boats in their line but it has been a while since they launched a new aft-cockpit model. The HR 400 is a German Frers design that incorporates many features you will find on the latest production boats, such as twin wheels, a fold-down transom, twin rudders and a cruising rig that is easy to handle from the cockpit. Down below, you have either one or two quarter cabins and one or two heads. The interior can be finished with classic HR mahogany or with lighter oak panels and trim. The 400 joins the center cockpit HR 40C and the two boats team up to really stake out the 40-foot size as HR territory. Other high end semi-custom builders are also introducing boats at the smaller end of their lines. Oyster recently launched a new 495; X-Yachts reinvented their X43; and, Swan has introduced an all new 48 MkII. So, if you are looking for a semi-custom, couple’s world cruiser HR and the other famous high-end builders have boats that might be exactly right for you. Read more about the HR 400 here.
