(bigislandnow.com) – After two weeks, the 94-foot yacht Nakoa was freed from the shoreline in Honolua Bay, Maui, HI. Over the weeks the vessel was pounding on the shore and suffered holes in the hull and finally sank in about 800 feet of water after being pulled free. The boat was initally moored overnight on a day mooring with a two-hour limit when the mooring line snapped and she ran onto the rocks. The Coast Guard federalized the vessel which meant that all hazardous material had to be removed before the boat could be moved. So far the removal bill is over $460,000. Read more.
