It seems that every few years there is a new controversy surrounding the America’s Cup, one of the world’s oldest sporting events. The latest upheaval has led Sir Michael Fay to resign his 46-year membership of the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron in protest. He, along with fellow Cup luminaries Alan Sefton and Andrew Johns wrote a letter to the squadron’s decision to sanction the sale of the venue and voting rights for the next Cup defence by Team New Zealand, now to be held in Barcelona, Spain in 2024.
