Before reading on, please pause for a moment to take this week’s survey so we can share the results with the Cruising Compass family.
If you were planing to sail south from the East Coast to the Caribbean in the fall of 2022, would you consider joining a rally starting in Newport, RI and heading for Bermuda and then the Caribbean?
Many thanks to all readers who took the time to answer last week’s survey on shore power on our boats. Of those who filled out the survey, 76% have shore power. Of the 24% who do not, 80 say they do not plan to add shore power. Regarding the amp service aboard, 78% have 30-amp service, 13% have 50-amp service and 9% have both. The popular reasons for having shore power in order are: 1. charging batteries, 2. 110-volt service for onboard appliances, 3. heating, 4. air conditioning, 5. dehumidifier and 6. hair drier. Other reasons readers mentioned for having shore power connections include 220-volt service for outside the US, and running all electric stoves and refrigerators.
