(WABI.tv) – 15 passengers and three crew were rescued from the historic schooner, Mary E, after she capsized in the Kennebec River this past Friday. At this time it is uncertain as to why she capsized and the Coast Guard has opened an investigation. The Mary E was originally built in 1906 as a fishing schooner, also serving as a cargo carrier and then a passenger carrying windjammer. In 2017/2018 she was restored by the Maine Maritime Museum.
