This past week two sailboats were reported missing, one out of Newport, RI and one out of Newport, OR. According to KGW a high school counselor and avid sailor from Clackamas, OR was found dead after failing to return from a solo trip about his 26-sailboat. The Coast Guard found him floating in the ocean with his lifejacket on.
Along the east coast two sailors and a dog onboard a 43-foot Beneteau were located by a rescue aircrew about 100 miles off Virginia. They two had left Jamestown, RI earlier in the week with a destination of Florida. When they had not been heard from by their families the Coast Guard was notified.
