Outboards are so reliable these days that they can run for years without need of repair. But, and there’s always a “but,” dirty fuel, lost gear oil and fouled plugs all can made the engine run poorly or not at all. The carburetor is often the culprit when the engine is running rough and to get it back into good running order, it may be necessary to strip the carburetor and give is a deep cleaning.
The British magazine Practical Boat Owner recently ran an excellent article on how to clean a carburetor in order to get the outboard running again. Check it out here.
