The Coast Guard rescued a 65-year-old man Saturday, March 19, who was aboard a sailboat 25 miles east of Hobucken, North Carolina.
Watchstanders at Sector North Carolina received a report at 5:30 p.m. Saturday that a man aboard the 24-foot sailboat Patty Kate was beset by weather.
A 45-foot Response Boat-Medium crew from Coast Guard Station Hobucken launched at 6 p.m. to assist the man. The boat crew arrived on scene at 7 p.m. and towed the vessel to R. E. Mayo Seafood Docks in Hobucken.
“We were very happy to get to him quickly,” said Petty Officer 3rd Class Lori Nossinger, a crew member from Station Hobucken who responded to the case. “In a situation that could have gone badly very quickly, the crew we brought really helped streamline the rescue and helped get him back smoothly.”
