The Salty Dawgs cut their dock lines in Hampton, Virginia on Sunday and Monday following the passage of a strong cold front. With the clearing winds behind them, the 68 boat fleet headed southeast toward the B.V.I. and a winter season full of cruising the Caribbean.
Weather forecaster and router, Chris Parker, is managing the weather duties for the fleet and predicted that the weather would be fairly benign for the first four days with the appearance of a small ridge of wind and weather affecting the fleet south of Bermuda.
The first boats should start arriving at The Bitter End Yacht Club in Virgin Gorda on Sunday and Monday. There, the members of the Salty Dawg Rally will be eligible for two weeks of free moorings and the use of the resort’s facilities.
