Here’s something fun and informative that will be coming up on April 17 that anyone who aspires to making offshore passage will enjoy.
American Sailing, which is the new name for what many of us know as ASA or American Sailing Association, offers regular live and then archived instructional webinars via their website. They have asked cruisers Julie and Gio Cappelli, who live aboard and cruise their sloop Pelagic Blue, to tell us all what it is really like to cook while underway at sea.
As a lead-in to their webinar Julie and Gio have written an excellent article on the subject that focuses on the essential skills, gear, and techniques to manage cooking in motion, keeping things efficient, safe, and – most importantly – delicious.
The couple covers simple but useful topics like the size of pots you want to use in bouncy conditions –one size up to provide more pot-side freeboard. And, they have a special affection for their pressure cooker because it has a locking lid.
