After what have been mostly positive reports coming back from this year’s boat show participation, it is surprising to hear this news from Palma, and so shortly before the show was scheduled to take place.
The 29th Palma International Boat Show has been rescheduled for April 2013 following a decision by a new organizing committee appointed by the Balearic government as a result of low vendor participation.
The Palma show has always been run by a government department which is in place to manage several trade and tourism fairs on the island each year. The recently elected local government in Palma had taken the approach of directly involving senior figures from the significant local yachting sector. The guiding principles behind the organizing committee’s goal is to ensure the Palma Boat Show can be economically viable, providing a value platform for exhibitors, and presenting a vibrant and informative event for visitors. The majority opinion of the committee, which included presidents of the nautical business associations, yacht brokers and marina management, was that all of these objectives could be most adequately met by utilizing their joint resources, and having the time to plan for a really successful Palma Boat Show in 2013.
