If you plan to charter in Europe, you need the International Certificate of Proficiency to show your competency and experience on the water.
To simplify the process for bareboaters, the American Yachting Association International Certificate of Proficiency is based on the boating experience you already possess, not on taking extensive sailing courses.
The American Yachting Association International Certificate of Proficiency is the only such certificate that attests to your experience in both sail and power. The certificate includes your personal data and your photograph in a sturdy passport written in nine languages (English, French, Croatian, German, Dutch, Italian, Danish, Spanish, and Portuguese), which makes it easy for local authorities to understand and approve.
In addition, you’ll receive a hard-laminated Proficiency ID card, also with your photograph and all necessary details in English and French.
