“How Sailing Impacts Lives” Contest is the Lead-Up to the School’s 50th Anniversary Parties and Events
As Offshore Sailing School develops its plans for the ultimate celebration in 2014, this year’s contest is already underway. The theme is “How your experience with Offshore Sailing School has impacted your life.” All stories submitted will be gathered in a book of memories for the big 50th Anniversary Celebration in 2014. The winner will get a six nights/seven days stay for two people in a one-bedroom beach front accommodation at the Pink Shell Beach Resort & Marina on Ft. Myers Beach, Florida – with use of a Colgate 26 throughout their stay.
Anyone who has been touched by Offshore Sailing School is eligible to write a story about a course, lessons, cruise, corporate or university adventure or other program participated in at Offshore Sailing School. The story should be no more than 500 words and must be accompanied by at least one photo or video depicting that experience with Offshore Sailing School or their current sailing lifestyle.
In 1964, Steve Colgate – an Olympian and America’s Cup Sailor – started Offshore Sailing School in New York City with one location, one employee and a partner who owned a cruising boat. In 1968 he met Doris Buchanan, one of his students who then worked for Yachting Magazine. Working closely together ever since, their entrepreneurial spirits have developed Offshore Sailing School into a thriving operation with eight locations, a dedicated training boat developed by Steve, a growing fleet of sailboats ranging from 26′ to 47′, 40 employees, and multiple partnerships with destination resorts and boat builders.
