The Boat Galley

The Boat Galley is designed to help the cruising cook get the most out of their boat’s kitchen, with in-depth articles featuring practical galley tips, insights and equipment recommendations.

The Boat Galley was written by Carolyn Shearlock, who lived aboard and cruised the Sea of Cortez, Pacific Mexico and Central America for six years. It’s not a site with gourmet recipes or even particularly designed for “foodies.” Instead, Carolyn’s articles focus on practical ways to cook without prepared foods and electric appliances, with ingredients that can be found in most cruising grounds and stored on a boat.

With over 350 articles, and more added every week, The Boat Galley covers topics as diverse as ways to cope with a temperamental galley oven, cooking from scratch, factors to consider when buying galley gear, food storage, keeping the galley cool in a tropical summer, improving refrigerator efficiency, techniques for hand mixing and more. One of her most popular features is a downloadable provisioning spreadsheet. Check it out at!
