Sail Together
I frequently get asked the question, “Where is your favorite place to sail?” It’s a tough one to answer. I usually start with a slew of places in the Caribbean and the Bahamas before moving on to the undeniable qualities of Newport, RI. From there I’ll touch on San Francisco, Florida and Annapolis before landing on Pentwater, Michigan. “Pentwater, Michigan? Where’s that?” they’ll ask with a puzzled look. Pentwater is where I grew up sailing with my family and it’s a place I will always love going back to. And after spending the past few days here, I realize why. It’s not necessarily the sailing itself – which is awesome – it’s about sailing with my family.
Sailing with family is something you can never take away. I learned to sail from my family and my dad learned from his grandfather. It is something we do and something we’ve always done. So here’s to all you sailing families out there. Keep making memories and remember those favorite places.
Enjoy this week’s Cruising Compass.
Cheers,
Andrew Cross
