Don’t say we didn’t give you plenty of notice to get your order in for that new Oyster–and give your boss plenty of notice that you’ll be leaving for over a year to fulfill your dream of cruising around the world!
Conceived as an event to celebrate Oyster’s 40th Anniversary, the 2013 Oyster World Rally promises endless adventure, camaraderie and unforgettable experiences.
The Rally, which will set out from Antigua on January 6, 2013 and return to the Caribbean in April 2014, has already attracted entries from over 30 Oyster owners. Some of those had already been planning to sail around the world, while others have seen this as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to complete a circumnavigation with the reassurance of being part of a large fleet of Oysters, with the service and support from Oyster’s technical team that ensures.
The Caribbean start will get the Oyster fleet through the Panama Canal and into the Pacific fairly quickly, maximizing the time visiting the Galapagos Islands and the beautiful Society Islands including Tahiti, Bora Bora and Moorea. From the Pacific, the fleet will head to the Great Barrier Reef, round the top of Australia, partying in Bali and heading west for Cape Town for Christmas and on to Brazil for carnival before joining up for a final grand party with the Oyster Caribbean Regatta in April 2014.
The first of three complimentary two-day seminars planned to help participants prepare for the rally takes place in London in May 2012 and will include key speakers on meteorology, downwind sails, medical and first aid, insurance, communications and electronics. A highlight of the weekend’s seminar will be a presentation by cruising guru Nigel Calder who will be speaking about the “First Steps in planning a Circumnavigation”.
