Hugh Schmidt, an avid sailor and energy economist who graduated from the University of Wisconsin’s Energy Analysis and Policy program, has created Sustainability Cruises aboard the university’s s/v Soma. The program aims to bring together students from different disciplines at the Energy Institute with sailing, an environmentally friendly activity, so that they can discuss cross disciplinary ideas for energy production and learn the sport.
While we might not all have a background in energy, many of us are passionate about cruising green. There are international programs out there like Green Drinks that bring people who are passionate about the environment together each month, and we think it’s a great idea to find other people in your area who love sailing and want to cruise green, and to head out for a few hours to discuss different ways that we can all do it better. Let us know if you do it and any great ideas that come about as a result!
