Guildive Cruises, in conjunction with Maine Maritime Academy, is hosting the first annual William Hand Jr. and R.O. Davis classic boat rendezvous in Castine, Maine from July 10-12. The 56′ ketch Guildive and 88′ schooner Bowdoin, both registered in Castine, were designed by William Hand Jr. who is known as one of the most prolific yacht designers of the 20th century. Schooner Bowdoin is celebrating her 90th year afloat and Ketch Guildive is in her 77th year. Along with the two Castine based vessels, 3 others are joining the event, the 108′ Maine Windjammer Nathaniel Bowditch from Rockland, the 36′ ketch Alisande from Lincoln, ME and the 57′ Burma from Mystic, CT. All William Hand Jr. or R.O. Davis designed vessels (sail or power) are welcome to join the rendezvous. But if you don’t have happen to have one for yourself, you can still go and enjoy some of the boats on July 11 when they will be open to the public from 3pm – 5pm, free of charge. A public lecture will follow and on the morning of July 12, there will be a parade of sail. For more information, go to www.handdavisyachtdesigns.com.
