The Maryland School of Sailing is offering a two-day docking class at their Lankford Bay Marina facility in Rockland Hall, MD. The hands-on class takes place on an Island Packet 32 and is appropriate for sailors of all levels. The course addresses a critical and often overlooked aspect of safe boating, especially since docking accidents are the most common of boating mishaps. The essential docking techniques and concepts that will be mastered by each student include preparing the boat and crew, docking and undocking procedures, wind and current effects, close quarter maneuvering, use of spring lines, and mooring techniques.
The course will be offered 12 times between now and the end of October. The fee is $575 for two days, and includes the ASA 118 Docking Endorsement certification. Students are welcome to stay on board during the course at no additional cost to save on hotel costs. Each class is limited to five students, so sign up soon!
