Another Marina in Florida Earns "Clean Designation" from Dept of Environmental Protection

Spill a drop of fuel at Sebastian Inlet Marina and it will never see the waters of the Indian River Lagoon a few feet away. Neither will waste from its fish cleaning table, soap suds from washing one's boat or even stormwater runoff from a 100-year weather event.

On Tuesday, the Marina was recognized by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection as a Clean Marina, Clean Boatyard and Clean Marine Retailer. The new marina, opened Labor Day weekend, becomes the second facility in Florida to receive all three distinctions. It is the 187th of 192 marinas that have joined the Clean Marina program. There are an estimated 2,000 marinas in the state.

On the Treasure Coast and near the Jupiter Inlet, there are 24 Clean Marinas and five Clean Boatyards.

Clean Marina requirements include proper storage and removal of waste oil, spill controls for fuel, handling of solid waste, and management of storm water, sewage and gray water among others
